Amid growing concerns about the security of the world’s computer networks, the University of San Diego has introduced a new master’s degree in cyber security engineering.
On Thursday, a distributed denial-of-service attack brought down the British Broadcasting Company’s influential website for hours.
“We anticipate high demand for this program that will serve professionals in the military, homeland security, public safety, ecommerce, privacy and technology industries,” said Chell Roberts, dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.
It is the first time that the school has offered a graduate degree, adding to its undergraduate engineering programs.
“We will be offering additional degrees and certificate programs in the future, including an online master’s in cyber law and policy,” said Jason Lemon, dean of the university’s division of professional and continuing education.
The 30-unit, 10-course program will begin in January. Courses are available during evenings for busy professionals. More information is available online.
