As the Islamic holy month of Ramadan nears to a close, Muslims worldwide are gearing up to begin their annual Eid al-Fitr celebration to commemorate the end of the fast.
The holiday begins with a special prayer in a mosque or an open space, followed by festive events and charity giving. San Diegans can find multiple celebrations around the county. Here are a few:
Islamic Center of San Diego’s Eid Fest 2025
The Islamic Center’s Eid Fest 2025 will be held on Sunday, April 6, from noon to 6:30 p.m. The event promises family-friendly activities such as face painting, a bounce house, a mechanical bull, pony rides, a rock climbing wall, food and bazaar vendors, and more.
Admission is free at the Islamic Center, 7250 Eckstrom Ave. in Clairemont Mesa.
Eid al-Fitr Dinner with the Muslim Community Center
Enjoy food from the Syrian restaurant Mal Al Shamon from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Greater San Diego Muslim Community Center, 14698 Via Fiesta.
Tickets are $40, but kids five and under are free. You can buy your tickets here.
Land Day and Eid event downtown
Local groups, including CAIR San Diego and the Islamic Center, are promoting a joint event for Eid and Palestine Land Day, which is a day commemorating six Palestinians who were killed, along with more than 100 who were injured in 1976 during a protest against Israel’s confiscation of land.
The event begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, with a call to advocate for the end of violence in Gaza. “How do we celebrate when our loved ones in Gaza have been massacred? When will thousands never break fast together again?” reads an Instagram post for the event, which will be held at Convention Center Park at Park Boulevard and Harbor Drive.
For those venturing out of the San Diego area, CAIR has compiled a list of other Eid events around Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles counties; it can be found here.
