The sun will rise over Kit Carson Park on March 22, as pet lovers from all over San Diego County will gather, leashes in hand, to take part in the 26th annual Walk for Animals—North County.
More than just a walk—it’s a celebration of the unbreakable bond between humans and animals, a chance to make a real difference in the lives of homeless pets, injured wildlife, and animals in need.
As participants arrive, the morning will kick off at 7 a.m., as walkers check-in, grab a complimentary pancake breakfast, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of music, entertainment, and the cheerful barks of eager four-legged friends.
Before the walk begins, a blessing of the animals will take place, setting the tone for a day dedicated to compassion. As the crowd warms up and stretches, the excitement will build. Then, at 9 a.m., the moment everyone has been waiting for—the start of the scenic two-mile walk.
Along the way, tails will wag, laughter will fill the air, and participants will soak in the camaraderie of fellow animal lovers. After crossing the finish line, the fun will continue with dog-friendly activities and a Vendor Village, where pet products, local businesses, and community partners will be showcased until 11 a.m.
For those unable to attend in person, the event offers other ways to be part of the movement. Supporters can fundraise from home, take a walk in their own neighborhood, or spread the word on social media to encourage others to join the cause. Every step, every dollar, and every shared story helps provide essential care for animals in need.
As the San Diego Humane Society reminds us, its work goes beyond adoptions.
“We offer programs that strengthen the human-animal bond, prevent cruelty and neglect, provide medical care, educate the community, and serve as a safety net for all pet families.” Since 1880, the organization has been a pillar of support for animals, operating campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona, and San Diego.
Whether walking in person, donating, or simply spreading the word, every action helps save lives. Join the movement and be a hero for pets by registering today at sdwalkforanimals.org.
