Petco has named three new members of its executive team, including Sabrina Simmons as chief financial officer.
Simmons, the former CFO at Gap, Inc., took over the post at Petco on Monday. In addition, next week, Michael Romanko, former chief merchandising and marketing officer at Five Below, Inc., will become Petco’s chief customer and product officer, and Jack Stout, former executive vice president at 7-Eleven, Inc., will join Petco as chief merchandising officer.
“Today’s appointments represent a significant evolution of Petco’s leadership team that brings robust retail expertise to help accelerate initiatives we’re undertaking to strengthen our retail fundamentals, drive profit improvement and return us to growth,” said CEO Joel Anderson in a news release.
Simmons, Romanko and Stout join a leadership team that has been in flux. Anderson, who joined Petco after leadership stints at Walmart and Five Below, came on last year, as did Executive Chairman Glenn Murphy, Chief Human Resources Officer Holly May and Chief Revenue Officer Joe Venezia.
Brian LaRose, the former CFO, is expected to remain with the company in an advisory role until April 30. He had been with the company for four years.
Simmons has more than 20 years of executive-level financial experience and had served as a member of Petco’s Board of Directors and Audit Chair since 2021.
At Five Below, Romanko oversaw merchandising strategy and operations, including product development, as the company grew to over $3.5 billion in sales.
Stout, a former Air Force captain, joined Petco as interim chief merchandising officer last year.
Petco, (Nasdaq: WOOF), based in San Diego, has more than 1,500 stores across the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico.
