The city of San Diego warned residents and visitors Wednesday to beware of a phishing scam involving fake parking citations.
Anyone who receives the parking citation message in a text message is urged NOT to follow the links and to avoid entering credit card or payment information, and, instead, visit the city’s website or call the Parking Administration office at 866-470-1308.
Scammers are sending text messages that appear to be from the city about phony parking tickets with instructions to click a link to pay the fine online.
The city’s cybersecurity team is working with the San Diego Police Department to shut down the fake website and find those responsible for the scam.
