Two people were killed early Friday in a crash on rain-slicked Interstate 805 in Chula Vista.

Both victims were occupants in a vehicle that had stopped in the southbound lanes, south of state Route 54, shortly after 1:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victims exited their vehicles, which was blocking traffic, and were struck by an oncoming vehicle, authorities said.

The crash left the southbound lanes blocked in the area, and the connector ramp from eastbound state Route 54 to southbound I-805 closed, according to Caltrans and the CHP.

A SigAlert was issued, but the lanes were cleared and the alert lifted shortly after 5 a.m.
