A pedestrian pushing a shopping cart suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pickup in the Bay Ho neighborhood, authorities said Monday.

A man in his fifties was pushing the cart northbound in the No. 2 lane of 4200 Morena Boulevard at 5:10 p.m. Sunday and the driver of a white 2025 Ford F-250 pickup didn’t see him and struck him from behind, according to a San Diego Police Department statement.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he went into cardiac arrest, police said. Medical personnel performed CPR and he regained a pulse.

The injured pedestrian suffered fractured ribs, a ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung and a fractured pelvis, police said.

Traffic Division officers were investigating the collision.
