To promote Pedestrian Safety Month in California, the Chula Vista Police Department said Wednesday it will conduct four traffic safety operations in September.
The department said that officers will focus on dangerous violations that put pedestrians at risk, including speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield, and running stop signs or traffic signals.
Drivers and pedestrians were also urged to stay off the phone when behind the wheel or walking.
Pedestrians were asked to be predictable and use crosswalk signals where drivers might anticipate foot traffic. At night, pedestrians should consider wearing bright colors, reflective material, or using a flashlight, police said.
Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Traffic Safety Administration.
