A theft suspect stabbed a Harbor Patrol officer Friday while being taken into custody on an East Village roadside, sending the lawman to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening leg wound.
The patrolman was arresting the suspected bicycle thief at 15th and Market streets when the attack occurred shortly before noon, said Marguerite Elicone, a spokeswoman for the Port of San Diego.
Medics took the victim, whose name was withheld, to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. He was expected to fully recover, Elicone said.
The suspect was jailed on suspicion of theft and assault. His name was not immediately available.
