The 41st annual Halloween pumpkin drop at UC San Diego Friday smashed the all-time record for the gourd’s widest splatter, at 138 feet.
The prior record was 100 feet, set in 1995 by a pumpkin weighing almost 400 pounds.
Today’s candy-filled record-setter, named “It Low” by students, weighed in at around 600 pounds, among the largest in the event held by UCSD’s Muir College.
Students pushed It Low from the top of 11-story Tioga Hall, a freshman dormitory.
A similar ritual marks the close of the school year, when UCSD students toss a watermelon off the top of Urey Hall.
