The Padres on Sunday acquired relief pitcher Jason Adam from the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays get prospects – right-hander Dylan Lesko, center fielder Homer Bush Jr. and catcher JD Gonzalez – for Adam, a right-hander.
Adam, 33, has a 2.49 ERA in 47 innings this season, striking out 50 while walking 16 batters. He signed with Tampa Bay just prior to the 2022 season, and has given the team two-and-a-half seasons with an ERA of under 3.00 out of the bullpen.
Adam remains under club control through the end of the 2026 season, giving the Padres two full seasons of the reliever.
Padres General Manager A.J. Preller said Adam fortifies the back-end of the team’s bullpen, as the Friars continue to chase a wild-card spot in the National League playoff race.
Lesko, who is a top 100 prospect in baseball, heads to Tampa Bay as the big get in this swap. Lesko has a 6.46 ERA in 69.2 innings while striking out 79 this season in the minors.
Bush Jr. has four home runs in the minors on the year and Gonzalez is hitting just above .200.
The MLB trade deadline is 3 p.m. PST Tuesday.
