A 52-year-old bicyclist suffered fatal injuries when the victim was struck by a vehicle while riding on a rural highway in east San Diego County, authorities said Saturday.
The accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. Friday on State Route 67 north of Mapleview Street in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 32-year-old Lakeside man was driving a silver 2021 Chevrolet Trax southbound on SR 67 and crashed into the bicyclist while he was riding westbound across the highway, the CHP reported.
The victim, also of Lakeside, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
