A mid-afternoon fire damaged a home in a Palm City-area neighborhood Wednesday, displacing four residents but causing no reported injuries.

The blaze erupted about 3:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of Conifer Avenue, just east of Interstate 5 and west of Hollister Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

It took firefighters about an hour to gain control of the flames, the city agency reported.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced people — all adults — arrange for emergency shelter.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
