The GI Film Festival San Diego kicked off Tuesday and runs through Sunday with 35 films for, about and by service men and women.
The annual Washington event is making its first trip to San Diego, and will include a local film showcase exclusively featuring San Diego area filmmakers, locations, and actors.
Upcoming events in the festival are:
Thursday, Oct. 15: Coronado’s Village Theatres will be the venue for an evening of film screenings curated by the GI Film Festival San Diego, featuring the birth of naval aviation, a profile of a nurse who served in WWII, personal accounts of Vietnam War rescue missions never before shared, and a profile of one of the founders of the Vietnam Village of San Diego (now Veterans Village).
Friday, Oct. 16: Family Movie Night on the USS Midway Museum’s flight deck featuring the film “Max.” Canine star Jagger, screen writer Sheldon Lettich, and local service and therapy dogs are scheduled to appear. Comedian and former naval officer Jamie Kaler hosts.
Saturday, Oct. 17: A free career fair and workshop sessions for military and veterans looking to break into the entertainment industry. Barracks 17 at NTC Liberty Station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 18: Local Film Showcase series featuring San Diego area filmmakers, locations, and people caps an exciting line-up of films from all over the world. Screenings held at UltraStar Cinemas at Hazard Center beginning at 12 noon.
Sunday, Oct. 18: A closing night celebration and awards ceremony where top honors are bestowed to four local films will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Diego – Mission Valley at Hazard Center at 6 p.m. An “Audience Choice” award will also be announced.
Tickets for individual screenings start at $10. All access passes are $85. Military and veteran discounts apply.
