Rescuers called in to assist a man trapped in a Chula Vista storm channel early Saturday found him dead, prompting an investigation.
Dispatchers had received a call around 3 a.m. from a person stating that a male was down in the storm channel below Bay Boulevard and L Street, according to OnScene.TV.
Chula Vista police and fire crews responded. Upon arrival, it was determined that the man was approximately a quarter mile inside a large underground channel.
Officers entered after speaking to two others near the channel, found the victim and learned he was deceased.
The man’s body was set to be removed at daylight. The San Diego County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
