Sheriff’s deputies arrested five people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a sobriety checkpoint overnight Friday in San Marcos.
The checkpoint in the 1300 block of West San Marcos Boulevard opened at 8 p.m. Friday and closed at 2 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by officers from Cal State San Marcos, Escondido, Palomar College and San Diego.
A total of 3,271 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 768 drivers screened and 33 vehicles sent to secondary screening.
Four drivers were arrested for DUI-alcohol and one driver for DUI-drugs.
In addition, authorities issued three citations for driving on a suspended driver’s license, 10 citations for not having a driver’s license, and five citations for other violations.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant fromh the California Office of Traffic Safety.
