San Diego Restaurant Week returns on Sunday, offering special deals so that local foodies can sample more than 180 eateries throughout the county.

Three-course dinners are available at $20, $30, $40 or $50 per person, and two-course lunches at $10, $15 or $20 per person. Reservations are encouraged because of the event’s popularity, but walk-in diners are welcome.

Among the restaurants participating are Croce’s Park West in Banker’s Hill, Searsucker in Del Mar, The Patio on Goldfinch in Mission Hills, Union Kitchen & Tap in Encinitas, Amaya at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar and George’s at the Cove-California Modern. A searchable list is online.

The week actually lasts eight days, through Sunday, Sept. 27, and is often extended.

Sysco, a sponsoring food-service company, is donating to the San Diego Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program, which provides weekend food packages to chronically hungry elementary school students. Diners are encouraged to post a photo of their dining experience on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram; tag the restaurant; and include the hashtag #Food4Kids. Sysco will donate $1 for every post.

Restaurant Week is organized by the local chapter of the California Restaurant Association to showcases the diverse culinary world in the San Diego region.
