A 40-story residential development near Petco Park is set to break ground in early 2025, bringing nearly 450 homes to downtown San Diego.
An early interest list is being formed for the high rise, dubbed Revel, at 611 Island Ave., which is expected to include 443 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
The contemporary building, designed by San Diego-based Carrier Johnson, preserves the historic façade of the 1869 Klauber-Wangenheim Company Building, which currently houses Ballpark Storage, the developers, Cresleigh Homes, said in a news release.
“Our vision is for our residents to revel in all things that make downtown great by offering a blend of convenience, energy, and community in a project that contributes to achieving San Diego’s climate action goals,” said Jeremy Lui, director of development for Cresleigh. “We believe our project will meet the needs and lifestyle of families and the San Diego downtown workforce.”
The projects seeks to promote urban mobility initiatives by including Electric Vehicle (EV) charging capabilities in a limited number of on-site parking spaces.
The developers said the decision to offer scant parking “recognizes the evolving needs of modern residents” and prioritizes “usage of the numerous ride-share programs, public transit (including the San Diego Trolley), and e-bikes and scooters, which will afford residents ample mobility options.”
“We are focused on promoting a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle,” says Lui. “Residents will have convenient access to secure bike storage for traditional pedal and e-bikes, offering greener commuting options and contributing to a more vibrant and active community.”
He added, “We acknowledge that San Diego has long been a car-dependent city, but we are confident the mindset will change as downtown continues to urbanize.”

The high rise also will include a rooftop terrace, 50-foot-long swimming pool with a separate hot tub, and communal spaces for gatherings.
Additionally, as part of its design, Cresleigh is committed to featuring works created by local artists throughout the project, including a 50-foot x 10-foot piece in the lobby showcasing “the rich cultural tapestry of San Diego.”
The developers are aiming to achieve LEED Silver certification.
“We can’t wait to break ground and redefine urban living in San Diego,” said Lui.
