The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped on Sunday for the 16th consecutive day, down 1.1 cents to $3.491.
The average price has dropped 74.5 cents over the past 45 days, including 2.2 cents on Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
“Local drivers are benefiting from a rapid price downturn caused by lower oil prices and some anticipations of lower gasoline demand,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California‘s corporate communications manager. “If local refinery issues don’t reappear, we can expect further drops in coming weeks.”
The decreases follow a seven-day stretch of increases totaling 73.7 cents that pushed the average price to its highest amount since May 8, 2014.
The average price dropped for 26 consecutive days, had three days of increases totaling 6.1 cents from Aug. 12-14, then resumed declining on Aug. 15.
The average price is 15.1 cents less than one week ago, 57.7 cents lower than one month ago and 32.9 cents below what it was one year ago.
