Chula Vista’s police chief was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday to the California Board of State and Community Corrections.
David Bejarano, 58, has been chief of the Chula Vista Police Department since 2009, and previously rose to chief of the San Diego Police Department during his 24-year SDPD tenure.
The Bonita resident and former Marine has also been president of Presidential Security Services and U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of California.
Bejarano, a Republican, is the president of the California Police Chiefs Association.
The uncompensated position, on a board that oversees a 3-year-old agency that advises the adult and juvenile criminal justice systems and provides expertise on public safety realignment issues, requires Senate confirmation.
