An early morning fire Wednesday in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood charred some trees and materials stored near a Buddhist temple but left the structure intact.
Someone called for help after spotting a tree on fire near Wat Sovannkiri Buddhist Temple on 52nd Street near University Avenue around 3 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
A second tree caught fire shortly afterwards, and the blaze spread to material stored under an awning in an alley behind the temple, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
Crews kept the fire from damaging the interior of the temple. Swanson said the blaze caused about $50,000 in damage to the property outside the building.
The cause of the non-injury fire has yet to be determined, according to Swanson.
