Higher than average surf and strong rip currents will make swimming dangerous along the San Diego County coastline Wednesday as the region grids for possible thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service said monsoonal moisture will bring an active period of weather through Friday. The majority of showers and thunderstorms will be inland, but “at least a few showers and storms will be possible all the way to the coast,” according to the weather service.
A beach advisory is in effect through Wednesday evening, with waves and surf of up to 5 feet and sets of up to 6 feet were expected at southwest facing beaches.
“Strong rip currents and elevated surf will result in very dangerous swimming conditions,” the weather service said. “Swimmers in shallow water may unexpectedly get pulled out by the rip currents or the larger breaking waves.”
The forecast calls for patchy flog and clouds in the morning with a partial clearing in the afternoon. Highs will be 74 to 79 near the coast and 78 to 83 inland. The chance of a thunderstorm is listed at 20 percent.
