If you live in the Fourth Supervisorial District and want to vote in the Aug. 15 special primary election, you must register by Monday to receive a ballot in the mail.

Otherwise, you will need to make a trip in person to the San Diego County Registrar’s office in Kearny Mesa or visit a vote center starting Saturday to conditionally register and vote provisionally.

The person elected will fill District 4’s vacant seat for the remainder of former Supervisor Nathan Fletcher’s term ending in January 2027. Only those who live in the district can vote in the election.

Fletcher resigned after being accused of assaulting and harassing a transit agency employee. He claims they had a consensual relationship and denies her charges.

District 4 represents several communities in the city of San Diego – on the north, parts of Kearny Mesa and Clairemont, down south to Paradise Valley and on the east to the College Area and Rolando. The district branches out east to the suburbs to include Lemon Grove, La Mesa, and parts of Spring Valley and Rancho San Diego.

You can see whether you live in District 4 at sdvote.com, where you also may check on your registration status and register to vote.

You will need to register to vote if you:

  • are not registered in San Diego County.
  • recently moved.
  • changed your name.

If your signature is confirmed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, your registration will be sent to the Registrar’s office. If your signature is not confirmed, you can print the form, sign it and return it to the Registrar’s office by 5 p.m. Monday.

Registrations must be postmarked or delivered to the Registrar’s office by July 31.  Voters also may register online until midnight.
