Nearly three months of concerts begin at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion Monday as part of the San Diego International Summer Organ Festival.
The free shows, at 7:30 p.m. each Monday through Labor Day, open with James Kealey, first-prize winner at the AGO National Young Artists Competition last year.
Other concerts over the following weeks at the historic Balboa Park venue include:
- July 3 – “A Patriotic Salute,” with Robert York.
- July 10 – Ravel’s Bolero, with Raúl Prieto Ramírez, San Diego Civic Organist.
- July 31 – “Dancing Under the Stars,” with music to dance to, featuring organist Emma Whitten and soprano Maria Miller.
- Aug. 7 – “Music in Movies,” highlights from Star Wars, Interstellar, Frozen, Jurassic Park and more with Martin Ellis.
- Aug. 28 – “Not-So-Silent Movie Night,” music accompanies Harold Lloyd´s The Freshman from 1925, with Clark Wilson.
- Sept. 4 – Labor Day Classic Rock Concert, with six local rock musicians taking on classics by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Blondie, Pink-Floyd and more.
The organ pavilion, a gift to the city in 1915, also hosts free weekend shows each Sunday at 2 p.m.
