A man’s car was carjacked in downtown San Diego at bar-closing time Sunday.

The suspect, described as a six-foot-tall black man with a medium build, stole the victim’s 2008 Hyundai Elantra and phone in the parking lot of 800 10th Ave. at 1:51 a.m.

The San Diego Police Department said the owner had his engine on and was outside by the car’s trunk when the suspect confronted him. He saw a gun, escaped, and told someone to call SDPD.

Police later found the abandoned car at 700 13th St. Officers did not find the victim’s phone.

The suspect wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and weighed about 250 pounds, police said.
