A 24-year-old man severely injured when a car turned into the path of his motorcycle on an Escondido roadway remained hospitalized Tuesday.

Escondido resident Jesse Robert Maxwell was riding a motorcycle east on East Washington Avenue approaching North Hickory Street when a westbound Toyota Corolla driven by 33-year-old Hana Azzam Aliesa started turning left into a parking lot shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday, Escondido Police Lt. Greg Kogler said.

Maxwell’s motorcycle struck the Toyota’s passenger side and both vehicles came to a rest blocking the eastbound lanes, Kogler said.

Kogler said the seriously injured rider was taken to Palomar Medical Center to be treated while Aliesa and her passenger, neither of whom were hurt, remained at the scene. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to have been a factor in the crash, he said.

Anyone with additional information on the crash was asked to call (76) 839-4407.
