EdgeWave, a San Diego cyber security firm has added big-name security veteran Steve Orenberg to its board of directors, the company announced Wednesday.

Steve Orenberg, who took Kaspersky Labs, an unknown Russian anti-virus software company, and made it into major brand in the United States. During his 10-year tenure as the Kaspersky North American president, he helped to grow the company’s global sales by several hundred million dollars.

“Steve is a proven leader in the cyber security industry,” said Dave Maquera, EdgeWave CEO and president. “His strong expertise, particularly in establishing powerful brands and driving growth across the globe, will be extremely valuable to EdgeWave’s continued success.”

EdgeWave uses military processes to defend complex computer networks against sophisticated cyber attacks.

“I’m delighted to join EdgeWave’s board of directors at this point in the company’s growth,” Orenberg said. “Today’s cyber security landscape is one where cyber attacks on both the private and public sectors are growing exponentially in both numbers and their sophistication.”

In December, EdgeWave announced it has received $8 millions in initial venture capital funding, $7.2 million of it from TVC Capital, a San Diego growth equity firm, the rest from three other investors.
