A motorist was killed Monday afternoon when his car crashed off a Rancho Bernardo street, overturned and smashed into a tree.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Bernardo Heights Parkway, near Avenida Venusto, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan died at the scene of the wreck, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
Police blocked off a stretch of the street to allow officers to gather evidence and clean up the roadway. The closure was expected to continue into the early evening.
