The unseasonable heat wave that has set several temperature records in the San Diego area will continue Sunday with more records likely to fall.
On the heels of Saturday’s high temperatures, Sunday’s pattern will be much the same, with a high pressure system drawing in hot desert air that sets the stage for record-breaking heat, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service is advising those planning outdoor activities this weekend to take care to avoid heat-related ailments.
The unseasonable heat Saturday set at least one temperature record by late afternoon. The mercury climbed to 90 degrees at Lindbergh Field in San Diego, crushing the prior 83-degree high for March 14, set in 1951, the weather service said.
Farther north, it was even hotter, with downtown Los Angeles hitting 93 degrees and breaking a record set just a day before.
Highs of 84 to 89 are forecast today for areas along the coast; 89 to 94 degrees inland and in the western valleys; 81 to 86 degrees near the foothills; 71 to 79 in the mountains and 87 to 92 degrees in the deserts.
San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Rich Stropky told City News Service about two dozen seasonal lifeguards were brought in for the busy weekend, which also marked the start of spring breaks for some out-of-town schools.
