A collision between an MTS bus and a pickup truck at a Midway-area intersection Thursday left two people trapped in the overturned pickup for about a half-hour and sent them to a hospital, along with three others.

The crash occurred at Pacific Highway and Enterprise Street shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Emergency crews had to cut the roof off the truck to free the man and woman inside, fire-rescue spokesman Lee Swanson said. The extent of the pair’s injuries was not immediately clear, though they were conscious and communicative during the rescue, he said.

Three of the roughly 12 passengers in the bus suffered minor injuries. Ambulances took all five patients to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest.

The accident left the road crossing blocked for about an hour, Swanson said.
