USD senior guard Johnny Dee from Rancho Buena Vista High School became USD’s all-time leading scorer with 1,808 points, Saturday night in Santa Clara, passing the record previously held by Brandon Johnson (1,790).

The Toreros would go on to lose the game, though, 59-56 to Santa Clara.

Dee had a game-high 20 points, but the Toreros were not able to hang on to a six-point lead with a little over six minutes left in the game.

A fourth-year senior, Dee, is averaging a team-high 18.9 points-per-game this season, and has been at least All-West Coast Conference honorable mention in his previous three seasons at USD.

Last year Dee was named to the first-team.

Dee is also USD’s all-time leader in three-pointers made and attempted (253-620).

The loss on Saturday brought the Toreros to an even (7-7, 0-2), and they will now come back home to play Loyola Marymount on Jan. 8, at 8 p.m.
