A Chula Vista man died Saturday morning in a solo vehicle crash on an off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5 in San Clemente.

The California Highway Patrol received reports of the crash at the Avenida Calafia exit just before 4 a.m.

The 28-year-old victim was driving his 1997 Ford Explorer southbound in the fast lane when he suddenly veered to the right causing the SUV to overturn, CHP officials said. The man was ejected and both he and the SUV came to rest on the Avenida Calafia off-ramp.

The CHP did not release the man’s name pending notification of next of kin.

The CHP asked that anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to call the Capistrano office at 949-487-4000 or the non-emergency dispatch number, 949-784-6700.
