A motorist was killed Wednesday in a predawn solo car crash on a rural road north of Escondido.
Jose Gomez Pavon, 29, was headed east on Old Castle Road in Hidden Meadows about 2:30 a.m. when his 1999 Honda Accord veered off the north side of the street for unknown reasons and struck a tree near Indian Hill Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorist died at the scene of the wreck, the CHP reported.
The cause of the fatal accident was under investigation.
