SeaWorld Entertainment Inc., parent of SeaWorld San Diego, laid off 311 people Friday at its Florida headquarters and theme parks across the country, an Orlando newspaper reported.
The Orlando Sentinel said the company would not provide details about what departments were affected, but the corporate headquarters in Orlando and all 11 parks were affected
SeaWorld employs 4,500 full-timers and 7,300 part-timers, the newspaper said.
On Thursday, SeaWorld announced that CEO Jim Atchison is stepping aside and layoffs were planned as part of a $50 million cost-saving effort.
The company is weathering criticism over its treatment of killer whales and facing declines in park attendance.
