Serge Dedina is maintaining a small lead against incumbent Imperial Beach Mayor Jim Janney in the latest ballot count result from the Registrar of Voters released Tuesday.

Dedina is ahead by 31 votes, capturing 2,187 votes to Janney’s 2,152. Dedina was up by 52 votes Monday.

At the close of Election night counting, Janney was leading Dedina by a slim margin of just 33 votes. Since then, Dedina has been steadily gaining over the incumbent Janney for the mayoral seat in the South Bay seaside city.

Saturday’s count showed the two candidates tied at 1,928 votes each.

There are still approximately 21,000 absentee and provisional ballots left to be counted, some of which may be for Imperial Beach, according to the Registrar of Voters.

In the unlikely case of a tie, the Imperial Beach City Council will determine the winner, according to the California Election Code.
