San Diegans will be able to inspect nine sustainable homes ranging from a renovated beach cottage to a new multifamily complex in the sixth annual Green Homes Tour next Sunday.
“The Green Homes Tour is an opportunity for community members to tour a wide variety of sustainable homes,” said Renee Daigneault of the San Diego Green Building Council, the sponsor of the event. “Our hope is to educate, empower and inspire visitors to learn how they can make their own homes healthier and more resource-efficient.”
The tour will feature green homes in El Cajon, Jamul, Ramona, La Jolla, South Park, Lemon Grove, Sunset Cliffs and downtown San Diego. Highlights include:
- A single-family home built of straw bales with a boulder centerpiece, a natural energy regulator.
- A net-positive energy home in Ramona seeking to become San Diego’s first certified “passive house.”
- A 16-unit development of renovated lofts built to LEED Platinum multifamily standards.
- A LEED Platinum residential beach house designed around an aesthetically pleasing photovoltaic system.
- A house surrounded by an edible landscape that reuses water.
