A person drove a car off a cliff in Ocean Beach today and was airlifted to a hospital, a fire official said.
The car went off the end of Orchard Street near Cable Street about 3:20 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Surfers tried to assist the driver, but were unable to, so a helicopter was dispatched to hoist the driver out, a fire dispatcher said.
The driver was then flown to a hospital, the dispatcher said.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the crash or the condition of the driver.
