A driver was injured Sunday morning when she lost control of her minivan and hit a fire hydrant and then a telephone pole in La Mesa.

The fire hydrant was sheared off in the accident, sending water pouring down an embankment off Resmar Road just south of Grandview Drive about 9 a.m. Sunday, according to a report by OnSceneTV. The water flooded the yards of four homes below the site of the accident, and mud and debris filled pools.

The San Miguel Fire Department was able to shut off water from the hydrant after about 10 minutes, according to the report.

A witness told OnSceneTV that he was driving south on Resmar Road when he saw the minivan cross over the center of the road and head straight at him. When he honked his horn, the minivan driver swerved and lost control of the vehicle.

The woman reportedly suffered an injury to her head, but declined to be transported to a hospital.

According to the report, the woman told California Highway Patrol officers that she didn’t remember why the accident happened.
