A predawn fight in Ramona between two men over a woman escalated Tuesday into a shooting, according to authorities.
The incident left one of the romantic rivals wounded and the other facing possible criminal charges.
Authorities received word of the shooting around 4:15 a.m. It occurred on the 400 block of Pala Street near state Route 67.
Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Jones said the men argued and scuffled. Then one of them pulled out a handgun and shot the other one, he said.
Medics airlifted the 24-year-old victim to a hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his left leg. The victim was expected to survive.
The case remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon, Jones said. The 26-year-old suspected assailant, who lives at the home where the shooting occurred, was detained for questioning.
Authorities released him pending further investigation.
