A minor dressed in a gorilla costume was taken to a local hospital Thursday after an incident involving a golf cart driven by employees of Montgomery High School, who were allegedly chasing the boy and may have hit him with the vehicle.

Details about the incident are few. It apparently started on campus Thursday during school hours and ended nearby at Montgomery-Waller Community Park, but somehow the student ended up injured following an accusation of battery on a school employee.

San Diego police supervisor Jeffrey Skiba said an investigation is under way.

According to a report by OnSceneTV, the boy allegedly attacked a staff member at the high school by either swinging at the adult or trying to hit the adult with an egg.

As the juvenile left the campus and walked toward the park, a number of school employees pursued the boy in a school golf cart. But the student ran when he saw he was being followed.

It’s not clear what happened next. Staff members said the boy was tapped by the golf cart. The boy said he was run over.

“There was some type of altercation as staff was going after the student and they were able to detain him until police arrived,” Skiba told OnSceneTV. “The juvenile did sustain potential injuries and is going to the hospital. There was some type of contact between an ATV and the student. We’re not completely aware as to what happened.”

The student was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible head injury, Skiba said.

Montgomery High School, at 3250 Palm Ave. in the South County neighborhood of Otay, is part of the Sweetwater Union High School District.
