UC San Diego’s 12th season of Camera Lucida chamber music features Beethoven’s string quartets to celebrate the composer’s 250th birthday and also rarely performed coloristic masterpieces.
The season concludes a multi-year exploration of the complete string quartets of Beethoven, as wells as works of coloristic and textural beauty by Francis Poulenc, Arthur Foote, Franz Schmidt, Frank Bridge, Gyorgy Kurtag and Darius Milhaud.
The series is a collaboration between five musicians with diverse backgrounds supported by a gift from the Sam B. Ersan Chamber Music Fund. The artists, all of whom call San Diego home, are Jeff Thayer, Che-Yen Chen, Charles Curtis, Anthony Burr and Reiko Uchida, with other occasional guests.

Jan. 13 — Mozart, Piano Trio in Bb, Divertimento K. 254; Beethoven, String Quartet in D major, Op.18 Nr. 3; Sergei Rachmaninov, Sonata Op 19 for viola and piano
Feb. 10 —Ravel, Sonata for Violin and Cello; Beethoven, String Quartet in c minor, Op. 18 Nr. 4 ; Brahms, Clarinet Quintet in b minor, Op. 115
April 20 — Francis Poulenc, Clarinet Sonata; Samuel Barber, Cello Sonata, Opus 6; Franz Schmidt, Quintet in G major
May 18 — Claude Debussy, Première rhapsodie for clarinet and piano; Arthur Foote, Piano Quartet; Beethoven, String Quartet in F major, Op. 18 Nr. 1
