An 81-year-old woman was seriously injured this afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in the Miramar area of San Diego.
The woman was driving east in the 7100 block of Miramar Road in a 2014 Lexus SUV just before 4 p.m. when she pulled into the left turn lane at the intersection of Miramar Way, according to San Diego Police Sgt. Michael Tansey.
The woman failed to stop for a red traffic signal and made a left turn in front of a westbound 2015 Mercedes-Benz cargo van, which struck the Lexus in the intersection, Tansey said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of a torn aorta, according to Tansey.
The Mercedes-Benz driver had a minor complaint of pain, according to Tansey, who said drugs and alcohol were not suspected as factors in the collision.
