The National Weather Service is forecasting “light to moderate” Santa Ana winds later this week as temperatures rise into the high 90s inland.
The combination of wind and heat means there is an increased risk of wildfires in the San Diego back country.
Winds will be highest on Thursday and Friday, weakening on Saturday, which will see the hottest weather, according to the weather service.
Temperatures on Saturday will be 84 to 89 near the coast, 92 to 97 inland, and 98 to 103 in the inland valleys.
According to the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index, the threat is listed as “marginal” on Thursday, meaning “upon ignition, fires may grow rapidly.” The higher threat levels are “moderate,” “high” and “extreme.”
