A midday apartment fire in City Heights Tuesday displaced a family of five and caused an estimated $35,000 worth of damage.
The non-injury blaze in the 3700 block of 41st Street was reported shortly after noon, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Firefighters were able to confine the flames to the kitchen of the second-floor unit, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents of the apartment — two adults and three children — arrange for temporary shelter.
Investigators set the monetary losses at $25,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents, Munoz said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
