Organizers of the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl announced the future of the post-season game Thursday.
Teams from the Pac-12 and Atlantic Coast conferences will play in San Diego’s main college football bowl game in 2020.
The six-year contracts with the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences expire after the coming season. The final match-up between teams from those conferences takes place in December.
Teams from the Pac-12 and ACC will face off from 2020-25. In the past, the game has featured teams from the Western Athletic Conference and the Big 12.
The game’s new contracts, first reported earlier this year, had yet to be announced by local organizers.
“Pitting the Pac-12 up against the ACC, two of the highest scoring conferences in the country, is going to feed perfectly into our reputation,” said Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville.
No team in the 15-school ACC has participated in the Holiday Bowl. The Pac-12 played in 21 consecutive games and 24 total. Notre Dame, a school with an independent football team, is also eligible for ACC bowl games.
The school can appear if it is not in one of the playoffs for the national college football championship.
Currently, the Holiday Bowl features the third-highest finishing Pac-12 team and the fourth-highest Big Ten team in each conference’s standings.
Last year, Northwestern University defeated the University of Utah.
Tickets for his year’s Holiday Bowl, Dec. 27 at San Diego’s SDCCU Stadium, go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
