After seven seasons in the minors, infielder Cody Decker had his contract purchased by the San Diego Padres Monday after Triple-A El Paso’s season ended Saturday.

Decker has been known as a comedian during his long stint in the minors, and is rather popular on Twitter with over 20,000 followers.

That is where he decided to break the news of his long-awaited call to the majors.

Decker, 28, was a 22nd-round selection by the Padres in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA.

During his seven seasons in the minors, he collected 154 home runs and 504 RBIs in 2,929 plate appearances. This year with Triple-A El Paso he compiled a .252 average with 21 home runs and 75 RBIs.

While he’s played mostly first base, Decker has seen time at third base, left field and even pitcher throughout his time in the minors.

He is expected to join the Padres in Arizona where they begin a three-game series with the Diamondbacks starting Monday at 6:40 p.m.
