The San Diego Padres announced Wednesday that Dale Thayer was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder, retroactive to June 17.

The team also announced that relief pitchers Kevin Quackenbush and Marcos Mateo were called up from Triple-A El Paso, Nick Vincent was optioned to Triple-A El Paso and Brandon Morrow was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

This will be Quackenbush’s second stint with the big club this season. He has a 3.10 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings.

Thayer’s 30 appearences is second-most on the team, and has a 3.41 ERA and five holds.

Morrow has been on the disabled list since May 5 due to inflammation in his right shoulder. In five starts this season he is 2-0 with a 2.73 ERA and 23 strikeouts.

Mateo will be making his stint as a Padre. He last played in the majors with the Chicago Cubs in 2011 where he had a 4.30 ERA in 23 innings of relief. With Triple-A El Paso this season he is 2-0 with 1.86 ERA in 29 innings, after being signed by the Friars this past January.

The Padres take on the San Francisco Giants at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday after beating them 3-2 in 11 innings Tuesday night. Ian Kennedy (4-5, 5.43 ERA) will go for the Padres against Ryan Vogelsong (5-5, 4.38 ERA) for San Francisco.
