San Diego State, collegiate rowing teams and even international entrants squared off Saturday to begin the two-day San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay.

Organizers also have made a big social media push, and will be posting updates via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The hashtag is #crewclassic.
Colleges competing include Stanford, Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCLA and Princeton. A rowing team from Hong Kong also is part of the event.
