San Diego County Taxpayers Assocation

The San Diego County Taxpayers Association announced Friday it’s once again looking for a chief executive, this time to succeed Mark Leslie, who retired in June.

Leslie came out of retirement in June 2014 to take the reins of the watchdog group.

Barry Jantz, the association’s incoming board chairman for 2016, and longtime civic leader Bill Geppert will chair a search committee.

“The Taxpayers Association plays an important role each election season, as our analysis of ballot measures helps voters understand their implications and make informed decisions,” said Jantz, who is the CEO of the Grossmont Healthcare District. “We’re eager and excited to move forward with finding the right advocate for San Diego’s taxpayers.”

Geppert was a longtime executive for Cox Communications in San Diego, and recently agreed to serve as interim CEO of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which also is searching for a new CEO.

The SDCTA has lost several leaders to other pursuits in the past two and a half years, including Sean Karafin to the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Felipe Monroig to the office of San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Lani Lutar, who went to the nonprofit Equinox Center and now runs her own public affairs business.
