Caltrans announced overnight lane and ramp closures are planed for Interstate 805 for Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. next week.

The closures will take place between East Orange Avenue/Olympic Parkway and Telegraph Canyon Road in Chula Vista, according to Caltrans. During the closures, crews will complete maintenance work on the I-805 and the East Palomar Street Bridge. This will include restriping of the freeway and installing  decorative fencing on the bridge.

Up to three lanes will also be closed in each direction along I-805 and various parts of the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp, during normal work hours. Affected areas include East Orange Avenue/Olympic Parkway and the ramps at Telegraph Canyon Road.

However, there will be at least one lane that remains open at all times, according to Caltrans. Officials advised drivers to plan extra time for their work commute or consider taking alternative routes. They also would like drivers to go slow and move over a lane, if possible, when construction workers are present with flashing amber lights.

Caltrans officials say the construction at East Palomar Street is related to the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1 billion project to add more carpool lanes to freeways in South County.
